Power outages on Cape Cod aren’t just inconvenient...they trigger a chain reaction. An aging grid, strained by larger, high-demand homes, means outages are more frequent and unpredictable. When power goes out, sump pumps stop, basements flood, food spoils, and homes on wells quickly lose running water, turning a simple outage into costly damage and major disruption. What starts as a flicker can quickly escalate into structural damage, unexpected expenses, and days of disruption. It’s a reality of coastal living, but one that can be planned for and managed with the right preparation.

A Standby Generator Works So You Don't Have To
Maybe you've thought about a portable generator as the answer. And for some, it works. Until a nor'easter buries the Cape for three days straight and every gas station between the bridges either runs out of fuel or loses power itself. Now you're rationing what's left, making choices about what stays on and what gets shut off, and venturing out into dangerous conditions just to keep the lights on.
A standby generator connected directly to your natural gas line changes everything. The fuel never runs out. The unit turns itself on automatically. And when your neighbors are scrambling, you're warm, comfortable, and completely unaffected.
Whether you want a compact standby unit that keeps the bare essentials running, like your well pump, water heater, refrigerator, a microwave, and the lights and outlets that matter most, or a larger air-cooled unit that covers the whole house, or even a commercial-grade liquid-cooled system that powers everything without breaking a sweat, we have the experience and the product lineup to match the right solution to your home, your needs, and your budget. We help you find just the right generator, installed the right way, the first time.
WE HANDLE EVERYTHING FROM START TO FINISH
When you work with us, you're getting a true turnkey installation. No coordinating between multiple contractors, no chasing down permits, and no wondering if the job was done right. We handle every piece of the project from start to finish: the electrical work, the concrete pad, the gas fitting, and all permitting with your town. Everything is done to code, fully inspected, and built to last. Before we ever recommend a unit, we complete a proper load calculation for your home. Sizing a generator isn't guesswork, and an undersized unit that can't carry your load is just an expensive disappointment.

Our generator stopped working during the blizzard, the next morning we left numerous messages with a large well known electrical company that serviced it. They were closed. In a panic, I went to google and started making calls and leaving messages. My mom is 85 yrs, bedridden, and needed heat. I was so lucky! My third call and a wonderful lady answered. I explained what happened and she said she’d get Nick out to us in an hour. She’s an angel! Nick got here even sooner. Diagnosed the situation, the generator was doa, he said I can get one installed tomorrow for you if you’d like. We liked! By 2pm the next day we have a beautiful Generac that will power the whole house.
The crew that came were polite, funny, totally professional, and hard working! Cape Cod Electrical is now our electricians for all our needs. I can’t recommend them enough. I love that they’re a small business on the Cape who care about their customers.

STILL NOT SURE IF A GENERATOR IS RIGHT FOR YOU?
common questions from homeowners, answered

We understand that a standby generator is a significant investment, and it's natural to have questions before making a decision. We've heard every concern, and we want to address them honestly, because we believe an informed customer makes the best customer.
A typical residential standby generator installation runs between $12,000 and $20,000, depending on the size of the unit and the specifics of your home. For most homeowners, that number pays for itself the first time a multi-day outage is avoided: no flooded basement, no lost food, no hotel stay, no emergency plumber. And if the upfront cost is a barrier, we work with several financing partners to make it manageable. Protection like this shouldn't be out of reach.
Less than you'd think. The bulk of the work is completed in a single day. We typically will set your unit, wire it, and have the rough gas work completed in day one. After inspections are coordinated with the town we will come back to do a final gas tie in, then startup the unit. 90% of installs are completed start to finish within one week.
Like your car engine, these units require service. Generac recommends we come out once a year and service your unit. This includes changing the oil, and oil filter, changing the air filter, spark plugs, and cleaning the enclosure. We load test the battery, and check power output. We complete firmware updates and make sure your unit is ready to work when you need it.
We pair every installation with a cellular monitoring device. The second something goes wrong with your unit we know about it. As long as our customers pay the annual fee to connect it to the cellular towers we can remotely view all of the generator's data, sometimes avoiding service calls and remotely reset the unit. We also stock THOUSANDS of dollars in repair parts. Often we are able to get a broken unit up and running with what is on our truck, or in our shop.
We handle everything from start to finish so you don’t have to coordinate multiple trades, manage timelines, or troubleshoot issues between companies. Purchasing a unit yourself and hiring separate contractors may seem to save a small amount upfront, but it often creates gaps in responsibility. If something goes wrong, you are left figuring out whether to call the electrician, plumber, or manufacturer. With Cape Cod Electrical, you have a single point of contact for the entire project and ongoing support after installation. As a Generac service dealer, we are equipped to service and maintain your system long-term. When issues arise, and with any engine-driven equipment, they eventually do, you have a trusted local team ready to respond. Our goal is simple: deliver a seamless installation and provide reliable support for years to come.
